White Snail

Oct 07, 2016
This is the shell of the white desert snail, a very unique species of snail that lives in the desert Southwest. It does not live in the small water sources that dot the desert land but rather on dry land. It spends much of its life underground in a dormant state. I wrote a small article on it titled the white desert snail.

White Sheep

Oct 07, 2016
This is not a Dahl sheep in Alaska. It's a Desert Bighorn sheep in Southern California. It is not a complete albino as the fur has some color and if you look at the rear hoof it only has a streak of white. It is the only sheep I have ever seen that has white horns most sheep have a honey colored horns.

What is it

Oct 07, 2016
What this thing is and why it's there I have no idea. Just one of the many mysteries in the desert.

Unique Redwood

Oct 07, 2016
I have wondered for weeks amongst the redwood trees and this is one of the most unique and beautiful trees I've ever found. It is unique in that even for a redwood tree is quite large and has a lot of very large branches reaching out a long ways.

Two Heads 2

Oct 07, 2016
The inspiration for the two-headed glyph may have been part of the sizing up ritual that two rams often go through before they really start butting heads. Here’s a picture of what that looks like.

Two Heads

This double-headed ram is a fairly common glyph, and you see it both in the great basin and Anastasi style glyphs. Sometimes they have only four legs and sometimes they have extra legs.

Tortoise

Oct 07, 2016
When I was a kid growing up in the desert around Barstow we could often find 4 or 5 tortoise a day. Who would've thought that in the space of less than one human lifetime they would rarely be seen.

The moment of the kill

Oct 07, 2016
I wrote an entire article on this glyph there is more to it than initially meets the eye

Stoic Ram

American Indian Food and Lore

Carolyn Niethammer

I found this to be a valuable and unique book. It is much more than just a list of edible plants; it delves into the true nature of what it takes to be a gatherer. When one takes into account all the books about hunting and fishing, one finds that they are numerous.
